Title: Poe

The Raven and Berenice | Bound by artist in 2009 | Collection of the University of Denver

Edgar Allan Poe, Hill Press, Baltimore, 1996

“Gebrochene rücken” variation of the Bradel binding, covered in full leather inspired by Paul Delrue’s "lacunose" sanding technique. Goatskin onlay, hinges and endbands, graphite edges, blind stamping.

9.5 x 6 x .5”

Repeated stamping of key words from two Poe short stories reinforces their themes of obsession. Onlay references a bird wing, shroud or clawlike hand.
