The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe | bound by artist in 2014 | Collection of the University of Iowa
Easthampton, MA: Cheloniidae Press, 1985.
Fine binding: Sewn on flattened cords laced into boards, covered in full goatskin using Paul Delrue’s “lacunose” technique of sanded leather collage. Calf onlays and hinges. Hand-sewn, French style silk endbands, graphite top edge. Blind-tooled title and decorative text. Black cave paper doublures and suede flyleaves.
6.75 x 9.75 x 1”
Repeated blind stamping, and abstracted shouting onlay of “NEVERMORE” reinforces The Raven’s themes of dread, obsession and hopelessness.
