Pendleton Round-Up

Pendleton Round-Up

Pendleton Round-Up at 100: Oregon's Legendary Rodeo | bound by artist in 2010 | $1000

by Michael Bales and Ann Terry Hill, Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company, 2009

Crossed structure binding in two colors of calf, both lined with brown walnut Cave paper. Endsheets folios of the same Cave paper. Sewn headbands, inkjet printed paper onlays of vintage panoramic photographs of the Pendleton Round-Up. Matching cloth-covered clamshell box decorated with identical paper inlays.

10.5 x 12 x 1 1/2"

1911 panoramic photographs from the Library of Congress depict the historic arena and groups represented at the Pendleton Round-Up from its beginning in 1910: Native Americans, Cowgirls, the rodeo band, and, of course, the fans. Stitching and materials used for the binding reference frontier leather craft such as saddles, chaps, or journals used by explorers and early settlers.
