Cutaway models are an interesting engineering problem, and very useful for teaching. I’ve made cut-away or partially-finished models of most of the structures I use, and this binding was the next challenge in the progression. The tooling further illuminates aspects of structure and process. What is completed and what is left incomplete is based on Mark Esser’s fine binding cut-away models in the University of Iowa Libraries Bookbinding Models collection.
