Title: Nineteen Eighty-Four

Nineteen Eighty-Four

Nineteen Eighty-Four

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, illustrated by Jonathan Burton | bound by artist in 2018 | $3500

London: Folio Society, 2014

Bradel binding. Dyed goatskin by Pergamena. Text: inkjet printed on spine, pochoir with acrylic on boards. Three-color hand-sewn silk endbands, head decorated with sponged multicolor watercolor, Bugra flexi endpapers.

9.5 x 6.5 x 1.5”
24 x 16 x 3.5 cm

Design features repeated Party slogans from Orwell’s 1949 dystopian novel that feel disturbingly prescient. A title that overwhelms the dimensions of the binding and the ominous palette enhance the mood of oppression.
